At Spring Lane we aim to offer a high-quality history education in line with the National Curriculum.
Half-termly topics for all children from Year 1 to Year 6 allow pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and chronological understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. The topics inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past, equipping them to ask perspective questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement.
The progression document below shows the key knowledge and skills children are expected to have understood for each year group.
Our History curriculum, while covering the National Curriculum, aims to excite the children and allow them to develop their own skills as historians.
Cross cross curricular links are made between History and other curriculum subjects to ensure the children have many occasions where by they can apply their knowledge and understanding. Regular references to timelines, hands on approach to learning and trips bring history alive for our young learners.
Assessment of history is conducted by class teachers using children’s work from their books, Seesaw and Learning Journey. This assessment is regular and informs planning for future lessons.
