What a wonderful, festive week, in Year 6!
In Maths, we have been focusing on creating equivalent fractions and the ability to simplify them. This has naturally led on to being able to add and subtract fractions, even when they have different denominators. The children have worked really hard on this and their growing confidence in this skill is a pleasing development. Please make sure that your child is practising on TT Rockstars as this can really help make wider associations with fractions, decimals and percentages.
What a Christmas performance! The children from Years 4, 5 and 6 put on an excellent show this week. They worked really hard to learn their lines and songs and we are particular proud of the children in Year 6 who memorised their words at home to ensure a faultless production. The children also had a fantastic time attending the church to take part in an Escape Room Challenge as part of their RE studies. They learnt a lot and had an amazing time doing it.
In English this week, we have been putting the finishing touches to planning for our entries into 'The Ultimate Guide to Unicorns and Flying Horses'. The children are now raring to go, full of their own ideas for mythical unicorns and we can't wait to read the resulting information texts
During DT , we are continuing to look at Global Food and how it is affected by trade, economics and other factors. The children get really excited about making Mexican quesadillas and Chinese pancake rolls. This links really well with our Geography topic of Trade and Economics where in this week's lesson they focused on trade links between the UK and El Salvador.

It has been a busy and productive week in Year 6!
In Maths, the children have worked hard to complete our unit on factors and prime numbers. They’ve shown great focus and perseverance throughout. For homework this week, we’ve set work on BODMAS (Brackets, Orders, Division/Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction), which is due on Thursday, 28th November.
In English, we’ve been learning our text map on the Frost Unicorn. The children have enjoyed identifying and discussing unfamiliar words, expanding their vocabulary and deepening their comprehension.
In Geography, we explored imports and exports, sparking fascination about different currencies and the origins of everyday items. It’s been wonderful to see their curiosity grow as they learn more about global trade!
In DT, we revisited the Eatwell Plate, reflecting on the importance of a balanced diet and healthy food choices. We also discussed foods from around the world; next week we will be tasting a variety of flavoured rice.

It's been another fantastic week in Year 6!
In Maths, we have been learning to divide using factor pairs, and we've also continued with short division. The children have worked really hard on this. Please make sure that your child is practising on TT Rockstars as this can really help make wider associations with division and multiplication facts.
In History, we have begun extended projects on some of the key events in World War II. The children have really enjoyed finding their own interesting facts especially on The Dambuster's Raid and the bombing of Pearl Harbour. We are really looking forward to seeing the creative ways in which the children will present their work.
During Art, we made sculptures in the style of Henry Moore, focusing on his distinctive shapes and forms.
In Science, we learned how to make simple circuits with switches that the children made themselves.

It's been another busy and productive week in Year 6!
In maths, we have been learning to multiply 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers, and we've also introduced short division. The children have been sent home with a worksheet covering both multiplication and division. Please encourage them to complete this and return it to their teacher to earn a "Catch Me" token!
In history, we tackled the sensitive topic of the Holocaust. The children approached this subject with true maturity and respect. We also created a timeline of the life of Anne Frank, who was an evacuee during World War II.
During art, we drew sculptures in the style of Henry Moore, focusing on his distinctive shapes and forms. In Science, we continued our work on electricity, learning about parallel and series circuits.

The children have been working really hard this week, despite some very wet break and lunch times.
This week we have been working on figurative techniques in English. The children have been learning how they work and the impact that they heve on a reader. They have started to apply them and begun to have some superb ideas for their own warning tales.
In the course of our reading lessons this week, we have been delving a bit deeper into our class reader' Goodnight Mr Tom'. It is an interesting and informative look at the life of an evacuee during World War II.
During our History lesson we continued exploring our new topic: World War II. The children learnt what 'Propaganda' means and how it was used during the wartime period. They gained a really good understanding of the roles which women undertook as part of the war effort.
In art lessons, we’ve continued our study of the work and techniques of Henry Moore. This involved the use of multiple media including sketching and wax resist watercolour painting. This brought some excellent results as the children tried to emulate Moore's work.
Maths has progressed nicely focusing on rounding numbers up to ten million, comparing numbers and multiplying up to four digits by two digits. We have also sent home some additional homework on the BODMAS work that we have completed, to ensure the children understand the universal order of operations.
In PE, the children have been continuing to learn how to play golf! They’ve been practicing their swing and having lots of fun while learning about the variety of golf shots that are possible and the situations that they are utilised in. This led them to designing their own golf courses The children have also been playing Tag NFL this week, which is already proving to be a firm favourite amongst some of the children
Please remember to encourage your child to keep reading regularly – at least three times a week – to build their literacy skills.
Also, please be reminded that our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday and that on the other days, the correct uniform must be worn, including black shoes rather than trainers. Long hair must be tied up and any jewellery removed. As the weather is turning colder, please ensure that your child wears their school jumper over their PE kit and brings a waterproof coat if possible.

It has been another busy and exciting week in Year 6!
In English, we have continued exploring the text Red. This week, our focus was on analysing the rich vocabulary used throughout the story. To wrap up, the children enjoyed a creative challenge where they wrote their own unique endings to the tale.
In science, we've been deepening our understanding of electricity, particularly how static electricity is created. The hands-on experiments and discussions have really sparked curiosity!
In history, we’ve been learning about rationing during World War II. The students have been enthusiastically planning their own wartime menus, reflecting the challenges of food shortages and rationing during that period.
Well done to everyone for their hard work this week!

It has been another incredibly positive week in Year 6! We have been completing our first assessments of the year and the children have really given it their all.
This week we have been visited by some educators from the anti-racism charity 'Show Racism the Red Card'. They delivered us a really thought-provoking and engaging lesson on the dangers of racism within society and how not to show unconscious bias in the way that we speak to each other. The children really enjoyed debating this important topic.
During our History lesson we continued exploring our new topic: World War II. The children learnt what an evacuee was and tried to put themselves in their position. They had a good understanding of the difficulties of the situation and wrote some fantastic letters back home from the perspective of an evacuee.
In art lessons, we’ve been participating in a whole school art project based on the book 'The Dot' Year 6's feature colour was purple and it was amazing to see the children express themselves in such a varied way using so many shades and tones of one colour. It will make a stunning contribution to our school display.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first RE day of the year, this week. We learnt about the process of coming of age within Judaism and then spent time comparing that with lots of other religions. The children were really interested in this subject as it takes place, in so many religions, at a similar age to them. It was fascinating to hear so many children talking so passionately about their own faith and how it compares to Judaism. The similarities in the creation stories were a particular source of interest.
In PE, the children have been continuing to learn how to play golf! They’ve been practicing their swing and having lots of fun while learning the basics of the game. There has been lots of improvement already.

It’s been an exciting first week in Year 6! The children have jumped straight into their learning with enthusiasm and hard work.
This week in English, the children have been learning our model text, Red. They’ve been working hard to learn the actions that help retell the story. Ask your child if they can share the story of Red with you – they’ve been fantastic at practicing!
During our History lesson we begun exploring our new topic: World War II. The children have started learning about how the war began and the key events that led up to it. It’s a fascinating topic, and the class has shown great interest in understanding this important part of history.
In art lessons, we’ve been looking at sculptures by the famous artist Henry Moore. The children have enjoyed analysing his work and exploring the way he expressed emotion through sculpture.
Our new science topic is electricity. This week, we’ve been learning about how electricity was discovered, and the children are excited to begin conducting experiments as we dive deeper into the topic.
In PE, the children have been learning how to play golf! They’ve been practicing their skills and having lots of fun while learning the basics of the game.
